Care Instructions

Fabrics

Printed or dyed furnishing materials do have a good inherent resistance to fading, but all fabrics will fade eventually. Therefore we suggest all curtains should be lined, this will also help them hang better, and wherever possible drawn back from the window during daylight.

All woven fabrics, especially those made from natural fibers, will shrink to a certain extent, and we recommend an allowance of 5%. Even dry cleaning can cause shrinkage, although usually to a lesser extent than washing.
For this reason it is best to allow generous hems, loosely stitched to enable adjustments to be made after the first washing or cleaning; side seams or attached linings should be hand slipped if possible, to allow for differential movement between face and lining fabrics.

Curtains may shrink, or indeed drop, due to fluctuations in atmospheric conditions, for example variations of temperature or humidity, such as excessive heat or dryness from radiators or excessive moisture from condensation.

For SHYAM AHUJA rugs and fabrics, we recommend the following: Professional dry cleaning only, but we shall not be liable for any defective cleaning (whether professional or otherwise) or damage to the goods from any improper cleaning methods. We recommend that customers should enter into a maintenance contract with reputed rug cleaning company.

For made-up items such as cushions etc., care instruction labels are attached to each product and these may carefully be followed. In case there are no care instruction labels, kindly contact us or follow the above cleaning methods.

Woven Rugs

For SHYAM AHUJA rugs and fabrics, we recommend the following: Professional dry cleaning only, but we shall not be liable for any defective cleaning (whether professional or otherwise) or damage to the goods from any improper cleaning methods.

All rugs retain their appearance and shape for longer if you remove dirt and stains regularly. If you have a light, single-colour rug you will naturally need to clean it more often than a darker, patterned rug.

Shaking or beating a rug can damage the warp, so we recommend that you brush/vacuum and air your rug instead. It is also a good idea to use a rug underlay to prolong the life of your rug and prevent it from slipping on any type of floor.

Effective vacuuming is the easiest cleaning method. When you vacuum regularly you remove all the loose dirt and dust. Using a vacuum cleaner with a rotary brush nozzle is the most effective method and reaches the base of the rug.

Please be gentle when operating the vacuum. Today’s vacuum cleaners often have two rug cleaning brush attachments: one has a hard-driving motor inside the attachment for rugged action on machine-made wall-to-wall carpets; the other attachment (with no motor inside) is the one to use on Shyam Ahuja rugs or any other fine hand-made carpets.

To get a more even exposure to sunlight and wear, we recommend that you rotate the rug regularly. When the rug is rotated, any possible bleaching and wear of the rug is more evenly spread.

SHYAM AHUJA rugs are PROFESSIONAL DRY CLEAN ONLY.

If the rug is stained, the best approach is to remove the stains immediately. It is best to scrape off dried stains. Start from the edge of the stain and scrape towards the middle. Be gentle to avoid damaging the fibers. You can remove wet stains by placing a kitchen roll over the stain. Then use tepid water on a cloth or sponge. Moisten the stain, soak up the water with the kitchen roll, and then repeat until the stain has gone. Take care to avoid getting the rug too wet, as this can cause the rug to shrink and lose shape; you can also blot with a dry cloth to avoid over wetting. Do not rub the stain, as this makes it more difficult to remove and can also damage the fibers. For grease stains and other stubborn stains, you can use a pH-neutral detergent that does not contain bleach. Remove all the detergent thoroughly afterwards to restore the natural properties of the fibers.

Never soak the rug and always remember to refrain from using any products containing bleach.

Customers should enter into a maintenance contract with a reputed rug cleaning company. If there is heavy traffic, rugs should also be treated with a stain repellant treatment. We take no guarantees once the rugs have been treated or serviced in any way. Some of the companies we utilize for these services are Elite Carpets and Costikyan Workroom.

With proper care, our rugs should give years of pleasure.
